I
have selected twelve samples from my portfolio to feature on this
page. These are chosen to show the wide variety of work I have done
and also to give you an idea of how I accompished each goal. On
some Bass Pro Shops samples the type styling and image masking was
applied at the separation stage and is not seen in these images.

GOAL:
Create an eye-catching design for a Harley-Dealer
in Arkansas using a razorback to play off the college mascot of
the University of Arkansas.
PROCESS:
I sketched the razorback character and then drew the
line art by hand. Then scanned that in and colored it in photoshop.
Also drew the wood planks bursting out from the whole, and then
created the rest of the design in Photoshop and Illustrator. |
GOAL:
Design a shirt that played off the fact that
this Harley dealer is located by an old WWII ammunition factory
that exploded during an accident. They wanted a vintage Harley that
would match the WWII era theme. PROCESS:
I created the logo at the top just as part of this
design, but it later became the dealer's new logo. I created the
explosion using cloud shaped brushes in photoshop and then using
layer effects to achieve the look of fire and smoke. |

GOAL:
Create a 70's style pin-up girl including
the Harley-Davidson trademark #1 for a customized t-shirt back design.
PROCESS:
I created this using Photoshop and Illustrator. The
type and banner were created in Illustrator and then rendered in
Photoshop. For the pin-up I used several pieces of reference art
and digitally painted her in Photoshop. Then added some texture
to the background of the design. |
GOAL:
The customer wanted a shirt to sell to tourists,
mostly coming from Disney cruise ships, that was Harley themed but
also "Disney" enough to attract non Harley fans to buy
it. Had to be appealing to the regular Harley customers, as well
printable on all shirt colors.
PROCESS:
I sketched up a bunch of character designs, got those
approved and then created final art using photoshop. |

GOAL:
To create an ad for Backpacker magazine for
the Bass Pro Shops camping department that let readers know that
Bass Pro was more than just a place to buy fishing equipment.
PROCESS: I
created the concept for the ad and then worked with the brand manager
and writing staff to finish the ad. I combined several photos in
Photoshop to create the image of the outdoors inside the store. |
GOAL:
Design
a logo, cover, page template and marketing pages for the "Go
Outdoors" event. This new event was a re-imagining of the "Camping
& Boating Classic" Bass Pro had held in the past, so this
logo would become the new identity of the event.
PROCESS: Working
with the Art, Marketing and Photography department I created the
logo and the images for the cover and marketing pages. I also created
page templates and laid out the cover products using InDesign. |

GOAL:
Design
covers, logos, templates and marketing pages for Bass Pro's largest
annual event the "Spring Fishing Classic.
PROCESS: Beyond
the design work I did on this, I also spent weeks working to create
individual version of the mailer for each location across North
America. Each store had its own list of events and guest appearances,
and I created a pullout "Calendar of events" for each
store. |
GOAL:
Create
logos, cover designs, marketing pages and page templates for the
Holiday sales at Bass Pro Shops stores across the US.
PROCESS: I
worked directly with the marketing and merchandising departments
for months to finish this project. Not only creating logos and page
designs but also marketing pages showing the "Santa's Wonderland"
event happening in every store. Also I had to coordinate with the
merchandising department to finalize what products would be on sale
during each event. |

GOAL:
When
designing the bi-monthly Tabs (sale ads) for Bass Pro Shops I would
have to crete multiple versions for various markets across the US
and Canada. Because different parts of the country fish and hunt
for different types of animals I had to make each one specific to
that region, which took a lot of research and planning.
PROCESS: I
would design the base cover and templates and then create versions
of them based on what region it was. |
GOAL:
Design
a logo for Bass Pro Shops Tournament Series Fishing Baits. The idea
was to create a sports style bass logo that would be the icon for
the logo and becasle to be printed on t-shirts to promote the brand.
PROCESS: After
sketching the bass ot I created a vector art version of it in Illustrator
and then designed the logo and packaging around it. |

GOAL:
Make
a tutorial showing how I alter photos for use in screen printing
designs, allowing for better image and color control while printing.
Also to help limit the number of colors needed to print a design.
This tutorial has been used to train other artists to work the same
way when
PROCESS: I
applied my method to a photo a a vintage Harley and then grab screen
shots of each step. I then labeled and explained each step in the
process. |
GOAL:
To
create an ad for TalkRadar, GamesRadar.com's weekly podcast, that
would both explain what the podcast is about and also where it could
be found. This ad ran in the November 2010 issues of Playstation
the Official Magazine and The Official XBOX Magazine.
PROCESS: My
idea was based on the classic Nintendo packaging from the 1980s.
Using photoshop and Illustrator I created the layout and the 8-bit
portraits of each host. |
